Amazonian herbal tea

This herbal tea is very much loved with the indigeneous people of the Amazon rainforest not only for its pleasant uplifting taste but also for its health beneficials.
Yerba maté contains several vitamins and minerals important to human health, including vitamins A (as beta-carotene), B1, B2, C and E, as well as phosphorus, iron and calcium.
It also has significant levels of antioxidants in the form of polyphenols and has a slightly higher antioxidant capacity than green tea.
Yerba mate tea increases activity levels of the enzyme that produces HDL, commonly referred to as "good" cholesterol, and lowers levels of LDL, which is commonly referred to as "bad" cholesterol.
Unlike other herbal teas, maté contains contains three xanthines: the main xanthine being caffeïne, with also theobromine and theophylline.
The specific caffeine workt on the muscles and less on the central nerveous system what makes the drink invigorating and stimulating, without giving you a hard edge.
Ideal for a quick pick-me-up.
Mild but rich flavour.
You can add any kind of liquid like water or milk (animal and vegetable), either hot or cold.
To modifiy the flavour, add fresh mint leaves or sweetners like honey.
Best served traditionally: in a calebas and sipped through a bombilla (straw with filter).
