An exceptionel work of art
This statue is of Chenrezig (Tibetan name) or Avalokitesvara (Indian name); she is known as the Bodhisattva of compassion and is considered to be a saviour and protector from danger.
It is a magnificent gilded copper statue, 70 cm high, weighing 6.5 kgs.
Probably some 20 year old, with no signs of wear or tear (maybe underwent some refinishing). Has a lovely patina and aged look.
An important deity in Tibetan Buddhism, she is regarded in the Vajrayana teachings as a Buddha and in the Mahayana teachings as a high-level Bodhisattva.
She wears the silks and ornaments of a Bodhisattva, representing all her special qualities.
