How does a Lyapko acupuncture massage mat work?
Stimulating the skin with non-invasive needles activates a series of complex physiological processes that contribute to skin improvement, wound healing and overall well-being.
By regularly stimulating the skin with our mat, you can improve skin quality, relieve pain and stimulate the immune system.
It all starts with the special needles, an alloy of iron, copper, nickel, zinc and silver, with tips that are made in such a way that they prick the skin but do not pierce it. This allows you to work safely.
The metal alloy also provides a galvanic current; this is a very light electric direct current that is caused by the natural voltage difference between the metals and the contact with the skin.
This current is not directly felt, but it does have an effect on the tissue that comes into contact with it.
The needles are firmly encased in high-quality rubber suitable for medical purposes.

How do you use a Lyapko acupuncture massage mat?
These mats are easy and safe to use, and you don't need any specific prior knowledge. You can use it in different ways depending on which part of the body you want to treat and how intense you want the experience to be. For the most optimal experience, contact with naked skin is best. Depending on the intensity, the treated area will tingle for quite some time, this is perfectly normal and has a good therapeutic effect.
You can even enhance this experience with our Acupuncture massage roller.
Back (most intense way)
- You prefer to lay the mat on a softer surface, this ensures that the mat bends completely to your body contours; our fitness mats are ideal for this.
- You can put a rolled-up towel under the mat so that the hollow of your lower back is perfectly supported; We recommend that you also use the acupressure pillow for this.
- Lie down on the mat, this will immediately give a strong reaction but hang in there, after 30 seconds the pain sensation will turn into an intense pulsating reaction as you feel your heartbeat pushing the blood to your back.
- Be sure to stay in bed for about 5 minutes, longer certainly can't hurt.
- Afterwards, you can rub the back with a massage oil or essential oil, drink plenty of water.
Back (more accessible way)
- If lying on the mat is a bit too challenging, you can also place the mat against the back of a comfortable chair or sofa.
- This prevents you from pressing full weight on the mat and you can decide for yourself how intense you want the massage.
- You can also combine this with the acupressure pillow in the lower back cavity.
- Because the intensity is a bit lower, you will stay in bed for at least 10 minutes, longer certainly can't hurt.
- Afterwards, you can rub the back with a massage oil or essential oil, drink plenty of water.
Rug (least intense way)
- This can be a good way for people with a very sensitive or painful back.
- Lie comfortably on your stomach and place the mat on your back and weigh down with e.g. flat objects or blankets until the desired pressure is felt.
- Because the intensity is much lower, you will stay in bed for at least 30 minutes, longer certainly can't hurt.
- Afterwards, you can rub the back with a massage oil or essential oil, drink plenty of water.
Belly
- You can also treat your abdomen, for this you can use the most and least intense way of the back.
Arms and legs
- You can also treat the limbs by either placing your arm or leg on the mat, or placing the mat over your arm or leg, possibly weighted down to feel the pressure a little more.
Glutes (billen)
- You can treat your glutes or buttocks excellently by placing the mat on a comfortable sofa or chair with cushion and simply sitting on it.
- This will also address the cellulite problem areas.
Feet
- You can lay the mat flat or rolled up on the floor and rest your feet on it when you sit down.
- It becomes more intense when you stand on the mat.
General guidelines
- Feel for yourself when you have enough, the treated area will feel warm and tingly and turn slightly red. A few minutes is usually enough, but you can go on longer if you need to.
- If necessary, repeat the treatment after a few hours to reactivate the effect.
- After the treatment, the skin is perfectly ready for a massage with massage oil and essential oil, magnesium spray, hydrosols, body lotion...
- Drink enough water to be able to dispose of the waste properly.
How do you maintain a massage mat?
Due to their high quality of medical rubber and non-corrosive metals, the Lyapko mats are easy to maintain.
The mats only need minimal care: periodically rinsing with some warm water (possibly a soft soapy water) is sufficient. Then blow the mat dry with a hairdryer so that no moisture remains on the mat before you put it away.
If you use the mat with different people, you can spray a good disinfectant such as our Natural Disinfectant with Rosemary on the needles for hygienic reasons between treatments.
Take care not to damage the needles and put it away in a safe place.
With proper use and maintenance, the lifetime of the mat is at least 5 - 7 years.
